Learn how to stand out from the competition! The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is pleased to present a writing workshop instructed by award-winning author and writing coach, Nikki Hanna. “The Path to Authorship” will help writers of all genres achieve their goals, whether they are ambitious or simply writing for pleasure. New writers will learn to progress quickly from novice to authorship and seasoned writers will learn how to shine.
The workshop will be Saturday, September 11th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at The Writers’ Colony located at 515 Spring Street in Eureka Springs. To ensure the safety of all participants, WCDH COVID protocols are in effect, and participants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. The class fee is $70 per person and includes lunch and a copy of Nikki’s book, “Listen Up, Writer: How Not to Write Like an Amateur.” Workshop attendees may reserve a writing suite for a residency at WCDH at the subsidized rate of $75 per night, single occupancy. Space is limited to ensure the ability to social distance.
The morning session will be spent covering topics from Nikki’s new book, “Listen Up, Writer: How Not to Write Like an Amateur,” which provides practical, relevant information, and candid advice.Critical components of writing craft will be covered including character development, structuring a story, and how to write with voice, style, and humor. Learn how to keep your submissions out of reject piles and stand out with agents, publishers, contest judges, and readers.
The workshop will continue after enjoying lunch prepared by WCDH chef Jana Jones, and some quality social time. The afternoon session will explore printing publishing options and marketing. Participants will learn ways to preserve and share their work and how to avoid scammers. Nuances of the industry will be discussed to ensure writers make sound, informed decisions. Step-by-step self-publishing details will be presented as well as ways to find joy and purpose in writing regardless of publication.
As an author and writing coach, Nikki Hanna is dedicated to championing both novice and seasoned writers. She introduces a perspective in her workshops that encourage writers to find a sense of purpose through what they create whether they sell what they write or just write for the joy of it. Her novel approach is designed to thrust writers forward quickly along the continuum to authorship, educate them on the realities of the publishing environment, and reveal alternative paths to finding joy and purpose in writing.
In addition to numerous awards for poetry, essays, and short stories, Nikki Hanna has received the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation’s Crème de la Crème Award and Rose State College’s Outstanding Writer Award. As a self-publisher, book awards include the National Indie Excellence Award, the USA Best Book Finalist Award, two international Book Excellence Awards, four Independent Book Awards, and two Oklahoma Writers’ Federation First Place Book Awards.
