About the event

Spend your lunch hour honing a writing skill! The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is proud to present a virtual Fourth Friday Lunch and Learn writing workshop, “Monologue Writing,” instructed by Colleen O’Doherty. All proceeds from this workshop will benefit the WCDH scholarship fund. Established in December 2019, the fund supports emerging writers and marginalized voices by providing financial support so that they may benefit from a writing residency. Scholarships are awarded on an as-needed basis depending on availability.

“Monologue Writing” will be held on Zoom on Friday, June 25, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm CDT. The Zoom link will be provided upon registration.  The cost of the workshop is $25. This is sure to be a creative, engaging, and informative class, suitable for adults of all abilities and levels who want to improve their writing skills. Participants will work on the basics of writing monologues and discuss how this can be applied to other writing genres and forms. Have on hand your preferred way of writing (notebook and pen? computer? stone tablet and chisel? Quill and parchment?) and get ready to have fun.

Colleen O'Doherty is a prolific playwright based out of Omaha, Nebraska. She has her MFA in play and screenwriting from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. It also won “Audience Favorite at the 2020 Stage It! 10-Minute Play Festival in Bonita Springs, Florida.  O’Doherty’s Zoom-based play, Missing Ingredient, released in November 2020, was selected for NYC's Project Y Theatre Company's Zoom series. It was also nominated for best short in the first annual Young-Howze Theatre Awards in February 2021.
