About the event
The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) presents Making a Living As a Writer, Coach or Facilitator: How to Talk About Yourself to Generate More Paid Work, led by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg and Kathryn Lorenzen.Â
There are many ways writers can make a living or add to their livelihoods through creating content for businesses or organizations, facilitating workshops, and coaching other writers, but how do you get started? Come explore how you can best pitch yourself to businesses, organizations, and communities for the work you want to do. This encompasses finding the language that best expresses your true work, what you offer, and what will speak to your audiences most. In this 90-minute session, we'll also explore networking that matters and works, including how reconnecting with people and groups from the way-back machine can be richer than we even dreamed of, and making new contacts can be easy, rewarding, and inspiring.
This is a 1.5 hour online workshop to be held over Zoom on Saturday, January 7 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm CT.
The class fee is $25 per person and all proceeds benefit the WCDH scholarship fund. Register here or call 479-253-7444.
This workshop is appropriate for writers of all levels of experience from complete novice to published writer. In preparation, attendees are encouraged to brainstorm their services, goals, and what makes them unique.Â
Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg is the former Kansas Poet Laureate, author or editor of 24 books across genres, and founder of Transformative Language Arts, an emerging field focused on writing, storytelling, and other word arts for community-building, healing, and social change.Â
Kathryn Lorenzen is a career development consultant who has coached hundreds of creative professionals through career strategy and transitions, and she's also a lifelong singer-songwriter and recording artist.Â
Together, they offer Your Right Livelihood: an annual class and also an annual retreat about making a living from the work you love.
