WCDH Wins Sustainable Arts Foundation Grant for Sixth Year

The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is proud to announce we have been awarded the Sustainable Arts Foundation Grant for the sixth year. This grant helps to fund one of our most popular fellowships, My Time: A Fellowship for Parent Writers.

The Sustainable Arts Foundation supports artists and writers with children. They make annual unrestricted cash awards to individuals; at least half of these awards are made to applicants of color. They also support artist residencies like The Writers’ Colony in their efforts to make their programs more family friendly. WCDH is proud to be counted among 28 writing residencies programs to receive this grant.

The SAF grant funds My Time: A Fellowship for Parent Writers and will provide two one-week residencies that includes a private suite with a bathroom and writing space; weeknight meals provided by our Chef, Jana; and a $500 stipend (increased from last year’s stipend of $400) to help cover travel and childcare costs.

Last year we received 74 submissions with 2 award winners. Rachel Morgan, one of the two recipients of the 2022 My Time fellowship said, “As a parent, uninterrupted time to write is virtually unheard of. This residency allowed for vast swatches of time that allowed me to investigate and explore the project.”

WCDH fellowships are funded by grants and foundations as well as by individual donors. Our fellowships seek to provide opportunities for emerging writers and writers from marginalized communities who may struggle to find opportunity and funding for the much needed writing time and space The Writers’ Colony provides.

WCDH fellowships are competitive fellowships that are typically open to writers of all backgrounds and genre, though some are specialized to a genre, theme, or demographic (such as having children under the age of 18). Applicants are judged blindly on their adherence to the fellowship guidelines, demonstration of literary merit, and the likelihood of publication (prior publication is not a requirement).
