On Friday, July 29, The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow welcomed the community to an open house reception to celebrate the retirement of Executive Director Michelle Hannon. Forty community members from across the Northwest Arkansas region attended the reception to give Michelle their well-wishes and welcome the new Executive Director, Tara Cloud Clark.
In lieu of gifts, $2820 was collected in Michelle’s name for The Writers’ Colony Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund is a resource dear to Michelle’s heart that allows writers from marginalized communities easier access to The Colony. When told the total of contributions from those wishing to honor her legacy, Michelle said, “One of the most remarkable things about being the Executive Director at WCDH was the support I received from WCDH alumni, board members, local writers, and the community of Eureka Springs. And here they go again, showing their support by so generously donating to the WCDH Scholarship Fund. I’m humbled, immensely grateful, and thrilled that their gifts will benefit emerging writers.”
Supporters of The Colony wishing to help the writing community can contribute in many ways:
Through the Scholarship Fund donors can help writers afford their stay with a less inhibited process.
When donors Sponsor a Fellowship, they support a cause they are passionate about while providing a two-week residency and a prestigious award to the winning writer.
Contributing to the Dairy Hollow Wish List allows donors to select specific items for purchase that improve or repair our facilities.
When donors contribute to eMerge, they directly contribute to the publication of our online quarterly magazine, freeing up operating costs for The Colony.
By serving on The Board at The Writers’ Colony, community members from across Northwest Arkansas help determine the direction of The Colony, how we grow, and, most importantly, how we can best serve writers of all backgrounds, genres, and levels of experience.
Community members can contribute to The Colony through various levels of Volunteering at The Colony doing whatever you like to do!
