New Rates and Updates at WCDH

March 23, 2023

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Everyone at The Writers' Colony appreciates your participation in our residency program. Since Michelle Hannon took over in 2019, the organization has improved and grown in exponential ways. While Michelle retired last July, she left a legacy foundation of Occupancy, Fellowships, Workshops and Grants to guide our future. We could not be more grateful.

2023 has brought new changes in the Governing Board and Staff for which we are equally grateful. Jeanne Glass, our Managing Director continues to oversee occupancy, facilities and day to day business matters with the help of Colony Coordinator Jesse Barfield. Joy Clark has expanded beyond her Media role to also oversee Grants and Fellowships. And we have added Nancy Paddock as our Programming Consultant who is already setting up exciting workshops, including a three day songwriting workshop in August. She is also looking forward to working with you when you book WCDH to share your special skills in workshops that support our Scholarship fund. All in all, we expect to have an exciting and formative year and look forward to enjoying it with you.

In the meantime, there are some changes you need to know.

As with all organizations, families and individuals, we are dealing with increasing costs and have to make some adjustments. As you review the changes, please keep in mind all you receive at WCDH with our incredibly low subsidized cost of residencies. This includes a Private Room, Bath and Writing Space; Multiple Gathering Spaces inside and out; Week-day Communal European-Style Dinners; Food access 24/7; Networking, New Friends, Quiet Work Space, Nature, Exciting Eureka Springs and the Crescent Swimming Pool!

NEW RATES for The Writer’s Colony – April 2023 Any reservations made prior to this letter will be honored at the previous rate, so long as a 50% deposit has been secured.

  1. Credit Card Fees: All payments by credit, paypal or other digital sources, will include those transaction fees in your final bill.

  2. Room Rates: All writing suites will be $95 daily.

  3. Culinary Suite with use of the full kitchen will remain at $125 daily; however, it is available for the $95 daily rate when used only as a writing suite.

  4. Deposits: All reservations require a 50% deposit, which is fully refundable up to 61 days before residency. Between 60 and 31 days prior, we will refund 50% of the deposit. Cancellations within 30 days of residency are non-refundable. No Reservation can be made without a deposit.

  5. Cleaning Fee: A one-time cleaning fee of $30 will be added to each residency. Longer residencies can schedule a Room Refresh (bedding, towels, bathroom clean) for an additional $15 (once a week).

  6. Retreats: The Room Rate for retreats will also be $95 plus one-time cleaning fee per room, with additional fees for prepared meals outside of weekday dinners. New Resident Application fees apply.

  7. Workshops: Residencies for specific WCDH workshops which encompass both buildings do not require a new resident application process or fee. All other policies apply.

  8. Room Sharing: When reserving an entire building, writers may double up in suites for an additional $25 per night for the second person plus any additional prepared meals outside of weekday dinners. These fees will be charged to the primary room resident. New Resident Application fees apply to all.

  9. Fellowship Residencies do not need to make a deposit but will be responsible for any charges beyond the two-week Residency fees, which does include the cleaning fee.

  10. Scholarship Residencies require a 50% deposit on their portion of the residency.

We appreciate your understanding of these changes and look forward to seeing you soon at The Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow.

With Respect,

Laura
