Telling True Stories Fellowship to Phyllis Unterscheutz
Phyllis Unterscheutz is the co-author of Longing: Stories of Racial Healing and editor of Toward Oneness & Freedom from Racial Prejudice. She is currently writing her second book, a memoir about finding the courage to tell the abortion story she kept secret for over 50 years. Phyllis was the winner of Tell Your Story’s Spring 2023 Writing Contest and a runner-up in Women on Writing’s 2024 Quarterly Essay Contest. Her work has been published in Science of Mind Magazine, long listed for the 2023 Amy MacRae Award for Memoir, and nominated for Best of the Net and the Pushcart Prize. She has three grown children and one in the spiritual world, six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. Phyllis and her husband live just outside Atlanta in Lithia Springs, Georgia. The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 “Telling True Stories” Fellowship. Phyllis Unterscheutz was selected from eighty applications received from writers across the U.S., and overseas. This fellowship had to be historically accurate, and tell a compelling story, could take a variety of forms, including memoirs, autobiography, biography, history, journalism, and even drama and poetry. Phyllis will receive a two-week residency at the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow.
