About the event

The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is proud to present “Writing to Heal Historical Trauma.” A virtual workshop instructed by WCDH alumna, dr. adrienne danyelle oliver. The course will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 4 to 5:30 pm (CST). The cost of the workshop is $35. All proceeds from this workshop benefit the WCDH scholarship fund providing financial aid to emerging writers and marginalized voices for Dairy Hollow writing residencies.

“Writing to Heal Historical Trauma” is a generative multi-genre workshop for writers of color to write about family or societal histories that disrupt familial and personal peace. The workshop will provide 90 minutes of instruction, including two writing prompts, time to write, and space to be witnessed.

No previous writing or publishing experience is needed to attend and receive value from this course. oliver encourages everyone to “learn to use the power of the written word to let go of trauma stored in the body.”  All participants need to bring is their preferred method of taking notes, and a desire to learn. This is sure to be an informative and inspirational class. The workshop is limited to 15 attendees, but an unlimited number of participants may register to receive the prompts by email. The cost is $10, which will also benefit the WCDH scholarship fund.  We encourage writers to purchase a spot for another writer of color to attend. Simply select the gift registration option.
