About the event

The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow and the Eureka Springs Carnegie Library are pleased to present “Words from the Garden,” an alfresco reading series every Wednesday at 4:30 pm in the Eureka Springs Carnegie Library Garden at 188 Spring Street (south of the Carnegie Library Gardens Building). The series will begin on Wednesday, June 16, and will run through the summer. “Words from the Garden” is free and open to all. In the event of rain, the readings will be held in the library garden under the tent.

The lineup of presenters includes local literary talent and diverse visiting writers from across the country who will be in residence at the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow, often paired together on the same afternoon. Readings will be followed by a Q&A session, so the audience will have a chance to interact with the writers. The readings, from a broad range of genres, will include poetry, memoir, cultural essay, adult and YA fiction, mystery, fantasy, romance, and more.

Executive Director, Michelle Hannon, said, “The goal of “Words from the Garden” is to promote a love of literature to the Eureka Springs community and visitors, and to showcase a broad range of literary talent in an accessible, intimate setting.”

The first reading on Wednesday, June 16, will feature the poetry of Caryn Mirriam Goldberg, Ph.D., the 2009-13 Kansas Poet Laureate, and author of 24 books, including How Time Moves: New & Selected Poems, released in October 2020; Miriam's Well, a novel; Needle in the Bone, a non-fiction book on the Holocaust; and The Sky Begins At Your Feet, a bioregional memoir on cancer and community. Founder of Transformative Language Arts, Mirriam-Goldberg leads writing workshops, coaches people on writing and right livelihood through the arts, and consults with organizations and businesses on creativity resilience.
