About the event

We are delighted to invite you to attend Poetluck, an open mic style poetry reading event at The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH). Poetluck provides a supportive and inclusive space for writers to share their work and connect with fellow literary enthusiasts in the community. We welcome writers of all genres and experience levels to join us and share their poems, stories, and essays with our audience. The evening starts with a potluck meal at 6:00 PM, bring a dish to share or not, there is always enough. The open mic-style readings start at 6:30 PM.

Our featured reader this month is Keith Scales. Born and raised in London, professional theatre artist Keith Scales has acted in more than two hundred plays and directed nearly a hundred, receiving numerous awards. Study Fellowships have taken him to Ireland, Greece, Japan, Prague, the west of England, and the south of France in preparation for various theatrical projects. He was awarded the first Masters Fellowship in Theatre by the Regional Arts Council of Oregon. From 1993 – 2009 he served as artistic director of the Classic Greek Theatre of Oregon, for which he wrote line-for-line English versions of sixteen ancient Greek plays. After a rewarding career in regional theatre as a professional actor, director, writer, and organizer. he retired from production and relocated from Oregon to Eureka Springs, to concentrate on the creation of original works for page, stage, and screen. He spent ten years as ghost tour manager at the Crescent Hotel and five at the Basin Park. In that capacity, he gave dozens of talks and interviews, assisted in many paranormal investigations, and developed ESP (Eureka Springs Paranormal) weekends. It was also his great pleasure to present conferences (Science Meets The Supernatural, Things Unknown; write and perform a one-man play (Mastermind) depicting the villainous Norman Baker; write and direct and a two-woman, one-hour, supernatural murder mystery-thriller, (Not Really a Door) performed by Rebecca J. Becker and several partners over ten years; create and perform in Flickering Tales, a regular storytelling program featuring authentic Ozark tales; and write and produce House of a Hundred Rooms: Tales the Ghost Tour Guides Do Not Tell, which has sold thousands of copies. Seven Story Hotel is his latest contribution to the curious mythology of Eureka Springs, and he hopes it gives as much pleasure to readers as it gave me to write. The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) will present our April Poetluck at 515 Spring Street on Thursday, April 11th, featuring award-winning writer Lonnie Whitaker.
