About the event

Bring your work to life! The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is pleased to host “Page to Stage,” a workshop led by Five & Dime Drama Collective. This comprehensive five-day workshop is designed for writers of poetry, prose, flash fiction, and short stories. Learn everything you need to know to adapt your work for the stage and create a micro-play of five to ten minutes. Every year Five & Dime produces a full stage production of a selection of first-run micro-plays. This workshop will enable you to create a play that will be eligible for submission.

The workshop will start Monday, February 24th, and run through Friday, February 28th. Classes will be held from 10:00 am to noon on Monday, and 1:00 to 3:00 pm Tuesday through Friday. The workshop will culminate on Friday with the opportunity to see Five & Dime actors read from your script. The standard workshop fee for the class is $150. The deluxe workshop fee of $430 includes the workshop, meals, and lodging on Monday through Thursday nights at the Writers’ Colony. Attendees may reserve additional consecutive nights at the reduced rate of $75 per night based on availability and single occupancy. The workshop is strictly limited to 8 attendees, so register early!

What makes a good play? Learn the creative process to bring your vision from concept to completion in a form that makes it directable. Topics will cover character development, the components of a play, storyboarding for production, and the flow of the performance, including sets, music, and lighting. This workshop will teach you to grab an audience from the moment the curtain goes up, keep them engaged through the closing scene, and create a play that is memorable long after the performance is over.

“Page to Stage” will be instructed by Larry Horn, Chris Rithaler, and Kenn Woodard. Larry Horn is an actor, director, and the Managing Director of Five & Dime Drama Collective. He was the Executive Managing Director of “Shift,” the 2019 Five & Dime production, and has directed over 200 productions. Chris Rithaler started in theater at age 15 as a founding member of the Red Carpet Community Theater in Elk City, OK. He has participated in local theater as an actor, assistant director, director, stage manager, and costumer. Chris has had the honor of having one of his plays produced by Five & Dime Drama Collective for Christmas at the Crescent in 2019. He writes plays, short stories, children’s books, and is currently working on a historical fiction novel. Kenn Woodard was the Executive Creative Director and Producer of “Shift. He is a seasoned theater and film executive producer, director, and actor with thirty years’ experience in local, national, and international media markets.
