What's New at the Colony

Latest News From the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow

The Communication Arts Institute received a $250,000 second year grant from The Care Foundation to produce Chewy Café, a children's cooking/nutrition program for Middle School youth. The program is making its debut at Springdale, Arkansas Middle Schools, the Boys & Girls Clubs in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Clear Spring School in Eureka Spring. These sites will be expanded state-wide and then nationally.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is launching an ASCAP Fellow award each year, chosen by ASCAP. The composer will receive a one month stay at the Writers' Colony to focus on his/her work.

The Maeve Marie Fellowship for Children's Book Writing will be offered for the second year. Emerging and experienced children's book writers are invited to apply. See details under the "Fellowship" category.

The Colony residential buildings are spruced up with some minor repairs and a new paint job thanks to Board President Donna William's continue generosity.

Traditional Home magazine remains a strong partner to the Institute , working with the organization to renovate the building at 505 Spring Street donated by Marty & Elise Roenigk. It has been a long process, but progress is being made. The foundation is complete (and the building is back in one piece), strong and ready for the next phase.

Gourmet Book Editor Diane Abrams, Gourmet Travel Editor Shelton Wiseman and other volunteer staff, along with WCDH alum Robin Kline, Interim Executive Director Jane Tucker and others serve as active members of the Chewy Café Team. Watch for more on The Chewy Café on the www.chewycafe.com and www.ca-institute.com websites.
